Thank you for this! Very helpful and informative. Perhaps this piece might be helpful in your next post when addressing the Assumption. With the exception of her very last paragraph (which I thought was unnecessarily harsh) it is fascinating and eye-opening.

Fascinating D... Ms. Barnhardt has actually commented here a number of times and I was honored each time. And yes, I likely will use portions of her post in the follow on post.

Thanks!

Nice job breaking down that dogmas are the top dog! After time, things like that can get confused in the mind, (if we ever really knew them in the first place).

P.S. Shameless Popery is also a good reference blog site for things such as the Assumption of Mary and other Catholic delights.

The tradition of the Assumption (Dormition for our Easter Catholic and Orthodox friends) goes back as far as the 4th century, possibly the 3rd. WHile the account is not from scripture, their are resonances and foreshadows in scripture (assumptions of Elijah, Enoch, Moses; the woman clothed in the sun in the Revelation).

A definition of dogma doesn't typically happen unless some kind of question arises, which is why you see some perpetually held teachings never actually defined as dogmas. If they are accepted always and everywhere by everyone, defining them as dogma isn't necessary.
