USA Today posts this example of the cluelessness of the elite of our country.
It seems that author E. L. Doctorow was giving a commencement speech at Hofstra University when he was roundly booed after making several anti-Bush statements. Apparently he expected everyone to either agree with him or to simply keep quiet.
He was quoted as saying:
"I thought we were all supposed to speak out," he told The Washington Post in Tuesday's editions. "Isn't that what this country is about?"
According to USA Today
He told the Post that his speech made the point to graduates that "simply because something was said by authority did not mean it shouldn't be questioned. I think it was entirely appropriate."
I think the students got the message Mr. Doctorow. They simply questioned your authority.
Fr. Tim
UPDATE: Juliette speaks to the indoctrination education exhibited by some at Hofstra.

That's the problem with the liberals in this country, and more specifically the anti-war liberal elite. They feel that they have the "right" to speak out and say anything negative that they want, which they do have that right. BUT, they forget that others have "rights", too. I have the right to boo them, to tell them they are stupid and ignorant, to not see their movies or television shows, to not support their businesses, etc. Unfortunately, our country has gotten lazy and selfish in this civil rights era. We all scream about wanting OUR own rights, and protesting if we don't get them. Many also say our country was founded on civil rights. (Actually, it was founded on religious freedom.) What many have forgotten is that we have LIBERTY in this country, not rights. Liberty is rights with responsibility. In other words, you have the right to speak out, but be responsible and tempered in what you say. If you blurt out hateful, negative comments, then be prepared to be booed, or to suffer other negative consequences of your actions. Just because Liberals support civil rights doesn't make them exempt from the consequences of their actions.
