The open carry people are pushing the limits. In this time Officers are on edge and the open carry folks are playing a game. They want their 15 min. of fame.

“This is not a third world nation”. Like where police officers harass innocent civilians?

Look, I’m ALL on the side of police officers but…sorry Rick, I’m on the gun carriers side on this one. While that cop may have felt he was doing his job, “Jeremy” was equally well within his rights to carry, film the incident, refusal to give his name, etc.

I think this is a perfect example of what we as Americans can and should do when a police officer oversteps their authority. Be polite, but now your rights and act accordingly. Police can ask or even do many things but that doesn’t mean they have a right to know or even do. Note he asked about the gun being loaded. I don’t know California law but I bet you can carry loaded.

While the police officer made an issue of the filming, I wonder what would have happened differently if he wasn’t being filmed? How polite he would’ve been when Jeremy didn’t give his name, etc.

In my opinion, this was nothing more than trying to intimidate a citizen. He pulled over and confronted an individual based on nothing more than because he was carrying. Period. Obviously he wasn’t breaking any law. Hell I wish he refused to let the officer handle his weapon. Jeremy could’ve been well within his rights to refuse to cooperate more than he did.

Bernie,

“The open carry people are pushing the limits.”

Like carry their weapons…legally?

I say we need “push the limits” more. Our 2nd amendmnet rights are, and have been, slowly chipped way for far too long. It’s about time we push back.

No Right can be exercised too much, there is no limit on them. Either you have it or you don’t. Limiting is nothinmg more than obstructing.

What if I said you were pushing your limit on free speech, how would you feel about that?

I’m tired of the constition being manipulated, our Rights being taken away and “new rights” like Obamcare being forced upon us.

I say push back more.

Bernie

Tim - get some sense. Someone walks down the street and has been arrested before in rape or robbery or any other crime. He carries a gun unloaded like open carry requires. Now, he will not give his name or show a right to carry permit, a criminal is exercising his right to carry a gun? Just like a person has to have a drivers lic.to drive a car a person who carries a gun should have one to. The open carry people just want to have there 15 min. of fame on Youtube. When you have gangs and nut jobs walking the streets We need to know that they can be trusted in carrying a gun. All these open carry people are doing is making States in act more laws from being stupid. If I am correct open carry allows a person to carry a UNLOADED GUN and the magazine on the other side. A person who confronts you with a loaded gun will take your gun because you could not load that weapon faster then the suspect pulling a trigger. So carrying a gun for self defense is out. It is all a show and pony idea.

“Someone walks down the street and has been arrested before in rape or robbery or any other crime. He carries a gun unloaded like open carry requires. Now, he will not give his name or show a right to carry permit, a criminal is exercising his right to carry a gun?”

A criminal, with a previous conviction, obviously doesn’t have the right to carry.

What is your point? The man, Jeremy, walking down the street was thought to be by that officer, to be a criminal? Even though the officer never mentioned that nor certainly never brought that up during his interview. Notice Jeremy (“I’ll say my name is Jeremy”) never gave legal proof of ID but there were no repercussions from the officer. Also, no permit was requested by the officer. Why? Either he didn’t do his job correctly or legally he had no right to see it under these circumstances? (Anyone want to set the record straight on that?)

“The open carry people just want to have there 15 min. of fame on Youtube.”

Or they want to exercise their rights.

I find it slightly disturbing that first, the officer approached this gentleman, for no other stated reason that he was LEGALLY carrying a sidearm. And two, you, at no point have a problem with that. Other to make up some scenario regarding some criminal, somewhere, doing something illegal. Which has nothing whatsoever to do with this situation.

“When you have gangs and nut jobs walking the streets We need to know that they can be trusted in carrying a gun.”

Wha…? We need to know if “nut jobs” and gang members (presumably carrying illegally) can be “trusted in carrying a gun”. Huh?

“All these open carry people are doing is making States in act more laws from being stupid.”

So…people who are exercising their 2nd amendment rights, according to you, are forcing our representatives to enact more laws to limit those rights? You don’t see a problem with that? You don’t understand how that’s infringing on our rights? You trust law makers to not infringe upon your rights? Hell, the founding fathers didn’t.

Obviously you have a problem with ‘Open Carry’. Why? Does it make you uncomfortable to be around someone who carries a gun? Why? Do guns in general make you uncomfortable? Do you think people should be able to carry concealed? Or not own guns at all? Where exactly do you draw the line?

“If I am correct open carry allows a person to carry a UNLOADED GUN and the magazine on the other side.”

You are correct, I just looked it up, in Cali. you cannot open carry loaded. Not sure about every other state and not about to waste my time.

“A person who confronts you with a loaded gun will take your gun because you could not load that weapon faster then the suspect pulling a trigger. “

Do a lot of criminals go around looking for open carry people to steal their guns?

“So carrying a gun for self defense is out. It is all a show and pony idea.”

Hey, if you think your safer NOT carry a gun, so be it, Bernie, that certainly is your right. You're free to be a victim.

Personally, and many other Americans agree with me, I don’t feel the constitution, or specifically the 2nd amendment is “ a show and pony idea”.

What other rights do you think are worthless? Free speech, protesting the government, the right to assemble…

Yeah, I'm the one who needs “get some sense”. Yup.

chuck aka xtnyoda

Most crooks aren't going around carrying an obviously exposed and open weapon. When that starts we will need to change the law to state that "open carry" law allows for carrying an open and loaded weapon.

Locutisprime

As retired law enforcement, i have always advocated carrying by citizens. In my state, until about thirty years ago, open carry with a permit for that specific weapon was all that as allowed. Since then, sane minds prevailed and we enacted concealed carry. That in and of itself dramatically reduced confrontations between police officers and citizens over exposed firearms.

I have listened to all the anti gun propaganda for decades and that is just what it is, propaganda. Armed citizens are not criminals and never have been. They are a deterrent and they have a constitutionally authorized right to protect themselves and possess and carry firearms.

Armed criminals abide by no laws as it concerns carrying. Never have and never will and anyone that believes that they will is an idiot.

There are presently several organizations nation wide, intent on challenging all carry laws, which on the one hand is a good thing. On the other hand, openly carrying causes more problems than it solves in my opinion and in my experience leads to unnecessary confrontations with police.

The entire video looks like a set up piece to me, including the actions, statements and reactions of the officer involved.

I have carried a firearm for almost forty years. Under the provisions of my state and federal codes, and my continued active status, I can carry concealed anywhere in this country and I do.

The only person who will ever know that I am carrying in public, is the unfortunate soul who attempts to bring death or great bodily harm to myself or another person.

I don't like this video on several levels. It is wrong on a variety of levels IMO, not the least of which is that it is purposely presented to be confrontational.

Work within the system, work within the constitution. Not only assert your rights but demand your rights under the second amendment. Be polite and comply with the reasonable requests of law enforcement.

But don't walk around looking for and instigating confrontations with law enforcement. As bad things can and will happen as a result of this type idiocy.

Wells said, Locutisprime.

Glad to see you’re back and, presumably, everything is OK with the ole peepers.

And then ... there is this.

Mrs. BH

Am I the only one who heard the first 4 seconds of this. "I got a lot of calls from people who saw you walking down the street" Could that be the reason in the first place this man was stopped?

oldwolves

Several years ago my 6 year old son and I were standing in line at my bank."Papa, that man has a gun like you!" Talking of the guy behind me, in a voice that insures everyone within a thousand feet hears it. Me, a retired cop with 25 years, him, a twenty something old kid with a weeks growth on his chin. The entire bank went dead quite. We stared at each other for all of five seconds. I said to him," Tax number" and he replied 870377(Not his real number) Every police officer in NYC is issued a tax number) We smiled and shook hands. Both of us were concealed ,but bulges do tell. Figures a cop's kid can pick out a gun bulge. My point being who the hell can tell if someone should or should not be carrying a gun? Any criminal with an ounce of brains knows he's free to carry a weapon and no one can stop him. I fully agree that anyone who can LEGALLY carry a gun should. But it must be concealed just for the sake of common sense! For ten bucks you can by a kit that will allow you to load 10 out of 16 rounds in most medium automatics. Making it look like your weapon is unloaded. So whats the point?
Making the cops look like the bad guys is a good idea? So the best thing a cop can do then is ignore everyone who's carrying a gun. Then when someone shoots up a couple of dozen people all he has to worry about is the paperwork and body ID's. Yes I know some cops are idiots but there are a lot more idiots on the other side.
Right to bare arms....Yes
Common sense..........Yes
Intentionally setting up cops for youtube gotcha moments..........Realy damn stupid.

Bernie

As a Recon Marine and Weapon Instructor I have carried as a Police Officer and Still do so today under the Police Right to Carry even retired at 45. I prefer concealed carry with training and permits. How will a Officer know if this person is lawful without checking him or her. In the east coast we had many wannabes and nuts carrying weapons and it was only with a check that we made a arrest. Open carry causes problems and your childish argument is like the fools on youtube. They want a Officer to stop them and act like little babies on camera. Victim yes, Police Officer and Marine who did 4 tours from 2003 to 2007 off and on. So stop with your NRA slogans. We all have a right to own a firearm and carrying one is completely different. Prove the use and safety and knowledge of the law and I will be glad that you are in the street with me.
