According to the Mayan's the world ends after the 2012 election. So the lad can't go there for an excuse.
Unless of course, he wants to claim that people seeking self preservation had more important things to consider than him.
We shall see.........

Sigh.
The Mayan calendar does NOT predict the end of the world in 2012. It doesn't predict anything.
It just ends there. This misconception really should be fought tooth and nail, even though it gives lots of people thrills of various kinds.

At the same time, the idea that there is plenty of misconceptions about Mayan 2012 makes the Obama-Bush blaming analogy that much tighter, maybe?

the end of the world theories based around the end of the Mayan calender base it on just that; the end of their counting time. As well as other predictions from other cultures and astrology
