Via Left Coast Rebel, something that brings it all back:
The video was shot by an optometrist named Jack Moss from the back garden of his home in Winter Haven Florida. It is moving, stirring and fascinating to witness the event from his (BETA) video camera and to note that Jack Moss and his wife and neighbor weren't quite sure what had transpired before their eyes. As you can tell from the video, they were excited, then perplexed, then shocked and horrified. I'm sure that we can all relate.
We can indeed.

I was a senior in high school in a little town called Chiefland, FL. In those days the elementary school was on one half of the campus, the high school on the other, with the cafeteria in the middle. My mother was the librarian at the elementary school, and I was her senior aide for one period. I was there, working in her library when she and I went outside to the lawn area right outside the library to watch this historic laungh. We could often see the shuttles when they got high enough, and that day it was clear enough to see it well. We just got sight of the single exhaust trail in the eastern sky above the trees when it suddenly split into two trails. We, too, were perplexed, then horrified as we realized we were seeing something very, very wrong. We ran back inside and turned on the TV (she had cable access in the library) to confirm our fears. It is a day and a moment I will never forget.

I remember the news coverage kept showing the parents of Christa McAuliffe in the stands at the launch as they began to realize what happened. I wanted to yank the camera out of whoever's hand. This elderly couple were watching their daughter die. Why would we want to intrude on that? Sickening. It was the beginning of my turning away from MSM.
