... sh*t crap?
Marine Sgt Mike McNulty is on activation orders to Iraq (second tour). On December 1st, 2007, Mike went to visit a friend in Chicago before deploying to say goodbye. In order to get to his friend's residence, and keep in mind that Chicago is a myriad of diagonal and one-way streets, the front entrance (right way) to the one-way street was blocked. Mike, being a Marine, overcame and adapted by driving around the block to the other end of the street and backing up all the way to his friend's place.
While saying goodbye, at about 11am, he noticed a man leaning up against his car. Mike left his friend's apartment and caught the man keying his car on multiple sides.
After caught in the process, the man told Mike, "you think you can do whatever you want with Department of Defense license plates and tags". (In Illinois you can purchase veteran, Marine, or medal plates. Mike has Illinois Marine Corps license plates.) During the exchange, he made additional anti-military comments.
Mike called the Chicago police and had the man arrested. A citation against the man was issued for misdemeanor criminal damage to private property.
The police report (and I have copies if needed) states:
Victim related to P/O that as he walked back to his vehicle, he observed the offender leaning up against his vehicle and rubbed/dragged his left arm and hand across the passenger side. As offender walked away from victim's vehicle, victim observed a scratch along the rear trunk and passenger's door area where offender dragged his arm and hand over. Victim and witness stopped offender and confronted him. Victim has military plates and decals on his vehicle and offender made anti war and military comments to victim. Upon P/O's arrival to scene, offender denied scratch victim's vehicle, but did admit to rubbing past it. Victim at this time did not sign complaint, because he is leaving tour for military duty. Offender said they accused him of scratching the car because he is Jewish. Offender's statements/responses to P/O's questions unreasonable.
As it turns out, the man is Chicago lawyer Jay R. Grodner, who owns a law firm in the city and has offices in the suburbs.
Do read the rest of this story but be warned, especially if you're on blood pressure medication, you might just have a coronary.
Un-freakin-believable.

Looking for a few hundred good men in Chicago that can afford a small fine for simple assult. Kick this lawyers a$$ every time he steps outside.

Rotten Attorney, but the update indicates the is going to be really sorry for his lack of smarts. If he is convicted of a felony, won't he have to give up his license to practice law? I hope so.

Wow, A jerk scratched a guy's car, why... HE'S WORSE THAN HITLER!

And salvage tries to prove that he's stupid once again.
No, that's not the whole story and like you keep trying to tell us, we have to look at the facts.
FACT: The attorney admitted to scratching the car BECAUSE the young man was a soldier and he's a foaming-at-the-mouth anti-war nutjob.
Try keeping that in mind if it's possible.

My son also has DOD stickers on his car and has had his windows smashed in here in good old NYC, foaming-at-the-mouth liberal bastion.

A scratched car!!! Will the owner get therapy I wonder? PTSD is often associated with this sort of thing, the poor dear.
>FACT: The attorney admitted to scratching the car BECAUSE the young man was a soldier and he's a foaming-at-the-mouth anti-war nutjob.
My how lucky you are to think that a car scratching is the expression of a foaming-at-the-mouth nutjob. I guess you've never met any real foaming-at-the-mouth nutjobs, I envy you. I've met a few and I'm pretty sure petty vandalism is at the bottom of their list of sins.
Ah but you Blackfive and other wingnuts have a mission to paint anyone who has noticed what a terrible mistake Iraq was into a caricature (violent hippy usually) and incidents like this, no matter how trivial, how few facts we actually know are always good grist for that silly mill.
Each time I read of these things I think of the Foster Barton case, you should look it up. I'm not saying that's the case here but I think there might be a lesson in it for you.

AAHAHAHA!
Yes, car windows are never, ever, eeeever smashed in NYC for any other reason then to protest war by anti-war liberals!
I heard a guy got shot in New York once and he voted for Bush... coincidence!!?!

When the proverbial horse really doesn't want to drink the water, there is always sarcasm.
I'm reading your every word, giggling slightly imagining what your reaction would be if a conservative did something because he didn't like whichever one of these you had displayed.
I'll bet he could just scribble "they're fighting for your freedom to have a stupid bumper sticker" in the dirt on your rear finder with his index finger, and you'd SHRIEK like a little girl Paris-wannabe whose annoying little yip-dog got snatched right out of her purse by the family cat.

Welcome back, Salvage. I was afraid we had run you off. Glad you are still with us.

"Welcome back, Salvage. I was afraid we had run you off. Glad you are still with us."
There's sarcasm, then there's SARCASM.
Posted by: tim | Wednesday, January 02, 2008 at 04:26 PM
Actually, tim, it's not either. But I can certainly see why one would think it so.
Here's the deal. I like Salvage. I disagree with him almost 100% but he is smart and often funny. So, I like him. He is frequently unreasonable and I do find that frustating. He is also extremely arrogant but there is no shortage of that around here.
So, no, it wasn't sarcasm. It was sincere. I am glad he didn't leave.
Posted by: BroKen | Wednesday, January 02, 2008 at 04:52 PM
Yes, Mr. Salvage, which is why only the cars with DOD stickers on them had their windows smashed that night.
Posted by: Mommynator | Wednesday, January 02, 2008 at 05:12 PM
I, too, felt that surge of "Oh good, the fun guy is still around" so I can see what you're saying Ken.
But really, how tough are we being on the guy? He just pops up to dish out sarcasm, pretending, and only behind the thinnest of disguises, to genuinely engage ideas.
He's got all the potential of being run out of here that an engine has of overheating when none of the spark plugs work.

Eh? Come again?
Posted by: Rick | Wednesday, January 02, 2008 at 07:37 PM
There is some of that in me too, Morgan. But actually, I think I got hooked by his softer, more honest side that Leslie pulled out of him. He told of his "conversion" to atheism and shared a broken heart. On my own, I probably would have over-looked those but Leslie's responses showed me the way. When I told him that I was praying for him, I meant it.
Uh, Rick, well, I wasn't going to name any names, but here is one.... BroKen!
Posted by: BroKen | Wednesday, January 02, 2008 at 10:08 PM
Ken... I think you're just trying hard to get along... not sure I've seen arrogance and certainly not extreme arrogance, in anything you've written but hey, maybe I missed it...
I know I missed salvage's softer side... someone got links?
Posted by: Rick | Wednesday, January 02, 2008 at 10:16 PM
Leslie was reading her way down the thread thinking, "I thought salvage said he lived in Canada not New York City" and then she came down to read she'd been all about the honest side.
A substitute teacher always suspects the worst.

"Actually, tim, it's not either. But I can certainly see why one would think it so."
Actually Broken, I knew it wasn't. I was just having fun with your ridiculous statement.
But then you when and topped yourself with:
"I disagree with him almost 100% but he is smart and often funny. So, I like him. He is frequently unreasonable and I do find that frustrating. He is also extremely arrogant but there is no shortage of that around here."
You certainly have a right to your opinion but I've lost a little respect for ya' on this thread.
Posted by: tim | Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 08:48 AM
I'm amazed at how hard this was to find; like a needle in a haystack (almost literaly!) But here is Salvage's heart, his softer, more human side, from one of the posts on his site.
He responds to Tim's question:
">Do you love that person?
A five year relationship ended recently and I did and still do."
To which Leslie responds:
"Considering your passion for this subject, you must have an interesting story to tell. Sounds like the holiday season might be different for you this year compared to other years...best wishes."
So, I compared my attitude toward the little twit with Lelsie's compassion and decided Leslie was right. That's all.
Rick, concerning arrogance, my posts are highly edited. I know me better than you do.
tim, you once compared me to Ward Churchhill. I didn't think I had any respect left.
Posted by: BroKen | Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 10:40 AM
Ah yes, the infamous BroKen “We’re immoral so I can understand why the Jihadi’s fly planes into buildings” thread. BTW, the shoe fit on that occasion and if I remember correctly Rick was all over you also for that crap disguised as intelligent thought. Thanks for the reminder and maybe you and salvage have more in common than meets the eye.
Before this latest, I was willing to overlook that onetime indiscretion. Now you and slavage can enjoy yourselves with such debates about how “stupid” something is or how “retarded” that guy was. Throw in some condescension and an obstinate attitude and you two are golden. Enjoy. I’ll pass.
Posted by: tim | Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 12:38 PM
Ken,
Looks like you're getting beaten up. I'm sure the folks in question don't mean it, and if they do, I would respectfully disagree with them.
And in my book you are several notches above Ward Churchill.
Posted by: Morgan K Freeberg | Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 12:40 PM
Morgan, it's brutal, but if they don't mean it, then it's not honest. I'm glad you disagree with them.
"And in my book you are several notches above Ward Churchill."
THANKS A LOT (with sarcasm:)
tim, I thought I defended that old post quite well, eventually. The silence of the critics was deafening. I imagined them all nodding their heads thinking, "Ah, I understand now." I suppose you were just rolling your eyes.
Posted by: BroKen | Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 01:53 PM
Broken,
I wouldn’t necessarily take silence as agreeing, especially when someone’s last comment wasn’t so. There could be any number of reasons why someone doesn’t comments further. Regarding your “Sympathy for the Jihad” thread, who knows? Maybe they decided your views were delusional and didn’t want to engage further. I sincerely don’t recall how it all ended.
If your gonn’a throw something inflammatory out there to try and make me look bad (BTW, congrats, you’ve succeeded) at least link to it so everyone can get some context & understanding what and why it was said. Otherwise, your motives seem slightly suspect at the least.
And yes, rolling my eyes was in full effect on that one.
Anyways, now that we’ve got one more thing we disagree on, you like me better, no? I’d throw in some insults, or name calling and such to really get in on your good side. But that’s not my normal style; I tend to save that for the truly deserving and when I’m in a particular mood.
Warning: I’m going to be off line soon for the next 16 hrs. or so, so don’t misconstrue that to mean I don’t disagree with you. (Is that too many negatives?) There, some sarcasm to REALLY make you like me. Till tomorrow…maybe. I think we’re done anyways…
Posted by: tim | Thursday, January 03, 2008 at 04:33 PM
tim,
My Ward Churchill remark was mostly a joke. I guess it was at your expense but I don't see how you can object to that since you describe your first comment on this thread as "having fun with your ridiculous statement." You can have fun, but I'm not allowed? Lighten up, man.
But you wanted a link so
http://www.brutallyhonest.org/brutally_honest/2007/08/broken-article-.html
and also this post which which I say probably never should have been separated from the first.

Broken,
Please reread my last comments, I’m not objecting to the jocularity aspect of what you said. Especially the link reference, while I appreciate that you included it now, it’s a tad late for the reasons I gave. Also, at least my facetiousness was something relevant and in correlation to this post/comments rather than four months ago. (How and why did you remember that?)
After rereading the original post and comments along with this thread/comments there seems to be a serious lack of communication, bordering on disconnect, between you and others, including myself. I’ll take comfort that I’m not alone.
And no, you did not “defend that old post quite well”.
ANYWAYS, we’ve beat the dead horse till it’s a pile of unrecognizable matter. We’ll agree to disagree, agreed?

Ken,
While I do think you're much better than Churchill, I'm going to have to re-think my plans about inviting you and Debbie to dinner on the same night and seating you next to each other. You're both still welcome but I'm going to have to keep the two of you apart...
Seriously though, what is damaging to your argument is that the facts, insofar as I understand them at this point, are on Debbie's side here. This whole thing about our porn addiction, our decadent culture, our depraved music and movies -- although sure, we have all that stuff -- it is not a primary motive for the attacks. Not a secondary or tertiary one. It doesn't seem to be anything more than a recruiting tool.
Remember 9/11 and those 19 hijackers? Remember Mohammed Atta, who was such a religious Muslim and so worried about modesty that, in his will, he forbade women from attending his funeral? Gee, it’s the same Mohammed Atta who got a lap dance or two from gyrating exotic dancers at Florida’s “Pink Pony” strip club–paying $300 for the pleasure. Other hijackers visited the Olympic Bar strip club in Vegas and hired prostitutes in Boston just prior to the attacks.
I've been looking for signs that the September 10 lap-dancing is some kind of an urban legend. I've not seen any such signs.
These are people who like to kill. I say we invoke the DailyKOS mantra in their general direction: Screw Them.
You read Playboy and I don't like it, I can still live next to you in peace. If I'm the guy reading Playboy and you bellyache about it, I can still leave with you in peace. If you want to engage in violence against me for whatever reason, that's completely different. In that situation, "civilized" people engage in pre-emptive attacks, and if they're truly civilized they don't lose a moment's sleep over it.
So these are not warriors of any brand of God, and they're not purifiers. They're sick twisted jackasses who worship death, and violators of a primordial social covenant. Yes, if they take the place over, Britney will be among the first to be decapitated. But that doesn't change the fact that they just like to kill, and are looking for excuses.
Posted by: Morgan K Freeberg | Friday, January 04, 2008 at 10:57 PM
Morgan, you are making the same mistake my other critics made. I admit that I encouraged the mistake by being provocative but nowhere did I say that the 9/11 attacks were justified. I made no such argument.
I was trying to point out the facts, which you describe..."our porn addiction, our decadent culture, our depraved music and movies" and move people to repent.
My mistake was in attempting to heighten disgust by pointing out that even our enemies are disgusted by it.
The case of Atta and his apparent hypocrisy is fascinating. Marvin Olasky gave an interesting interpretation at the time. He said if you live under a system of laws without grace (like Islam) and realize you have sinned, then there is no hope. None at all, except perhaps martyrdom. If your final act will cover over all your sins, then a little sin before that act seems quite reasonable.

Oh, and Morgan, after reading her article, I'm sure I would enjoy Debbie's company but I'll wait until you can arrange a dinner with Ann Coulter.

Why BLOGGERS should SUE Jay Grodner
I first thought of this as satire, but the more I think about it, this insane idea may work, considering just how F****D the legal system has become because of a** cracks like Grodner. Here's my brilliant idea. If you like it, PLEASE copy/past it on other boards, but hey, be sure to link it back here just to show how astoundingly smart FFer's really are when they take the proper medication.
All over the blogeshere there have been perhaps thousands of man hours used in the pursuit of the story of Grodner and his famous key. It stands to reason that Grodner is a Union Man, or at least a Union supporter and following that logic, Grodner must want those who do a lot of work compensated for that work. Considering all the time and money that have gone into looking up Grodners address, his phone number, his sex postings, and other stuff (someone even attended Grodner' trial, which had to be expensive) it's reasonable to expect PAYMENT for this service. SO, bloggers who have written about this SHOULD BE PAID. Lawyers make a minimum of one hundred bucks and hour and that's the cheap ones, so, all bloggers and others who have helped shed light on this subject on the internet need to band together and SUE Grodner for payment. At 100 bucks and hour times the number of times Grodner's name has appeared on blogs, that number will be about half the national debt. A class action suit against Grodner and any partners he has would tie up the system and Grodner himself for infinity.
Yes, the above does sound insane...........NOW......but legal minds on the net can turn this into some real wicked shit, I'm betting, so be sure to copy and paste this on all forums...
