Iraq to Combat the AP

As best they can:

Iraq's Interior Ministry said Thursday it had formed a special unit to monitor news coverage and vowed to take legal action against journalists who failed to correct stories the ministry deemed to be incorrect.

Brig. Gen. Abdul-Karim Khalaf, spokesman for the ministry, said the purpose of the special monitoring unit was to find "fabricated and false news that hurts and gives the Iraqis a wrong picture that the security situation is very bad, when the facts are totally different."

Of course, it's the Associated (with terrorists) Press reporting the news, and check out the last snarky paragraph:

Under Saddam Hussein's regime, the government imposed censorship on local media and severely restricted foreign media coverage, monitoring transmissions and sending secret police to follow journalists. Those who violated the rules were expelled and in some cases jailed.

Ballsy bastards eh?  Amazing.

TBlumer at BizzyBlog sums this whole thing up nicely:

The past two weeks have shown anyone with open eyes that it has never only been about the suppression of good news, which has been going on for years. No, it’s much worse than that. The press blindly passes on spin and propaganda from the enemy and questionable (if even existing) sources, and dismisses or ignores what our military or the Iraqi government says. This isn’t journalism; it’s subversion.

Subversion.  Exactly.

Associated with terrorists Press.  Pass it on.

So Rick...

I take it you believe that governments should generally be in charge of "monitoring" the press for "accuracy"?

saketini99 : In the past you could count on some accuracy in the news. For the past 40+ years you can count on the lies. Started in Vietnam and has never let up. If the Photo Shop displays and proven lies from Lebanon didn't wake you up then the 'fact' that the ASSociated (with terrorists) Press reports out of Iraq are almost 100% wrong 100% of the time (this can't be an accident), and the fact that CNN has admitted they were on Saddam's pad for years should tell you a little something. The military would win this war in less than 60 days if the left wing dimocrats would stop provided them with aid and comfort, top secret information through the NYT's, and telling them to hang in a few more months and they'll cut and run so they will win.

The Top Secret Information leaked by the traitors in the dimwit party wille evntually result in thousands of deaths in this country. Maybe even some of your family. Will you then be ready to 'take out' organizations like the NYT's?

scrapiron... you are a complete lunatic.

Perhaps you'd be happier living in China or Russia where they have no qualms about "taking out" journalists or news outlets that don't tow the Party line.

Seriously. You're insane.
