In the early '90s, Canadian General Romeo Dallaire defied UN orders to pull out of Rwanda, trying to save as many lives as he could during the bloody genocide that took place there. His stories are unspeakably horrible and in his book he says:
I know there is a God, because in Rwanda I shook hands with the devil. I have seen him, I have smelled him and I have touched him. I know the devil exists, and therefore I know there is a God.
Which somehow seems like an appropriate introduction to this:
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Saddam Hussein said on Monday he was not afraid to die, after witnesses at his trial described the horrors of his rule, including use of a human meat grinder.
There are no words.
