"Yes, he should question their patriotism. Because they're acting unpatriotically."

That titled quote comes from the Instapundit as he reacts to the President's speech today and I couldn't agree with him more.

I listened to pieces of it myself and my immediate response was "it's about damned time Mr. President".  From MSNBC comes numerous money quotes:

“The stakes in the global war on terror are too high and the national interest is too important for politicians to throw out false charges,” the president said in his combative Veterans Day speech.

“While it’s perfectly legitimate to criticize my decision or the conduct of the war, it is deeply irresponsible to rewrite the history of how that war began,” the president said.

...

Defending the march to war, Bush said that foreign intelligence services and Democrats and Republicans alike were convinced at the time that former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction.

“Some Democrats and anti-war critics are now claiming we manipulated the intelligence and mislead the American people about why we went to war,” Bush said.

He said those critics have made those allegations although they know that a Senate investigation “found no evidence” of political pressure to change the intelligence community’s assessments related to Saddam’s weapons program.

He said they also know that the United Nations passed more than a dozen resolutions citing Saddam’s development and possession of weapons of mass destruction.

“More than 100 Democrats in the House and the Senate who had access to the same intelligence voted to support removing Saddam Hussein from power,” Bush said.

Bush did not single out any critics by name but said many of them had supported Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., his rival for the White House in last year’s presidential elections.

The president said the criticism has taken a toll on U.S. forces.

“These baseless attacks send the wrong signal to our troops and to an enemy that is questioning America’s will,” Bush said.

“As our troops fight a ruthless enemy determined to destroy our way of life, they deserve to know that their elected leaders who voted to send them to war continue to stand behind them,” the president said. “Our troops deserve to know that this support will remain firm when the going gets tough. And our troops deserve to know that, whatever our differences in Washington, our will is strong, our nation is united and we will settle for nothing less than victory.”

More President Bush... more of this... hammer this home, daily if you have to... take this fight, this honorable and necessary fight, to the moonbats and their accomplices in the Main Stream Media and nail them with the truth.  This is long overdue and in my view is part of the larger war on terrorism.  The left has dominated the venue, filling the airways and print media with one half truth and whole lie after another and it's time, past time, that they are exposed and that they are indeed being unpatriotic about it.

And let's hope that the spineless Republicans in the Senate and the House will follow suit.  Yes, I mean spineless.  The Republican party has done one seriously crappy job of countering the Democrats on the war, on budget issues, on judicial appointments and on leading this country. They've done everything they can do to bolster those who say there's not a dime's bit of difference between the parties. It's time to grow a set of guhnads and take on the loonie left, their moonbat friends and the mouthpiece that is the MSM.

Carry on.

The innocent always think truth will out. So often they do a poor job of defending themselves. They know they are innocent, so don't want to dignify the lie.

In the thirties, there was widespread belief WWI was caused by the weapons makers. We like to find a scapegoat. It eases our guilt. For the left, who also believed the information, if Bush is guilty of lying, it means they don't have to deal with their guilt.

I'm not sure anything we could have done in Iraq after taking Baghdad would have been any better. Saddam clearly had prepared for a long period of civil war, hoping to wear us down. Ben Laden's crew clearly realized the strategic importance of Iraq, so they would have come no matter what we did. The Suni should have realized their best chance of survival was a peaceful democracy, but they didn't, (if there is a true civil war, they stand to take the most damage). Perhaps we should have recognized Sadr's danger earlier, but hindsight is always so easy. With no human intelligence sources in Iraq, we had no way to avoid major mistakes about who to trust, and who not to.

So it wasn't as easy as people thought. Did anyone have a plan that would have worked any better? There are so many dangers that didn't happen, but a change in our policy might have created, we probably have done as well as anyone could have done.

The real damage is by hurting Bush, it makes the next steps more difficult. Iran is still a great danger. My greatest fear is Iranian nukes against Israel, that trigger a Samson option, that end up killing hundreds of millions. So the democrat's actions by weakening Bush, weaken America. So yes they are quite unpatriotic. When the family is under attack, don't start a fight with your brother. Which is one reason I hate to say they are unpatriotic, some are only ignorant. Ignorance is curable. Truth is the cure.
