An icon has passed:
Rosa Parks, the black woman whose 1955 arrest for saying ``no'' to an order to give her bus seat to a white man served as a catalyst for the U.S. civil-rights movement, died today. She was 92.
A small sampling of related posts on the blogroll include:
One day you're an unknown Negro seamstress in the segregated South. The next day, you're a legend whose very name evokes hope and change for the better in an America that lives up to her ideals.
Call her “the woman who refused to get up,” but I’m sure Rosa Parks had no idea what her tired feet and frustrating treatment would lead to on December 1, 1955.
A true hero in the civil rights movement. This woman’s courage to face arrest for equality helped to spark a revolution that awakened America from judging someone on the basis of their skin color. She will go down in history as an individual that helped change the world for the better. This woman’s courage changed the course of history. May she rest in peace.
Praying and trusting that Rosa is now sitting in the presence of Christ.

she was tired that day and simply said no. by sitting down she stood up to a system of intolerance and injustice. now she is at rest. Rest eternal grant her, O Lord; and let light perpetual shine upon her.
Don't be mistaken. Rosa Parks was not a Black American hero—she was an American hero.

Would somebody please wake up the Whitehouse protocol officer and have him go in and brief Mr. Bush on his responsibilities to the nation when an American hero dies.
At least the Governor of Alabama knows the duties of his office.
