John Bolton - if only he were more... metrosexual

050413chinashopx

There's much more I'd like to say about the Bolton story, but frankly I'm a tad busy and even more preoccupied.

But thankfully, there are those on the blogroll like Roscoe who point us in the direction of Mark Steyn:

If the Senate poseurs and the media wanted to mount a trenchant critique of Bolton's geopolitical philosophy, that would be reasonable enough. But there's not even a pretense of any of that. Instead, his opponents have seized on one episode -- an intelligence analyst in a critical position with whom Bolton and others were dissatisfied -- and used it to advance the bizarre proposition that every junior official should be beyond reproach, and certainly beyond such aggressive ''body language'' as putting one's hands on hips. Or as Peter Beinart, editor of the New Republic, complained to the BBC the other night: Bolton was ''disloyal to his subordinates.''

...

So vast battalions of America's ''public servants'' sit around all day cross-examining each other about some guy's unacceptably aggressive body language. He put his left hand in! His left hip out! In, out, in, out, he shook them all about! It's the hot dance craze we all do at the Sinister Neocon Conspiracy Initiation Ceremony:

''Ev'rybody's doin' a brand new dance now
C'mon, baby, do the loco-Bolton!''

If he doesn't get the nomination, he's got the makings of this summer's novelty hit, Neoconga No. 5:

''A little bit of fingering of my hips
A little bit of sneeriness on my lips
A little bit of rolling of both my eyes
A little bit of petulance in my sighs
A little bit of starting to almost mock
A little 'You so totally do not rock'
A little bit of memo on your desk
A little bit of you makes me Hulk-esque!''

...

As for the job Bolton's up for, what would make Barbara Boxer and Joe Biden put their hands on hips? Child sex rings run from U.N. peacekeeping operations? Sudan sitting on the Human Rights Commission while it licenses mass murder in Darfur? Kofi Annan's son doing a $30,000-a-year job but somehow having a spare quarter-million dollars to invest in a Swiss soccer club? There are tides in the affairs of men when someone has to put his hands on his hips and toss his curls. And, if the present depraved state of the U.N. isn't one of them, nothing is. Unlike most of the multilateral blatherers, John Bolton is hip to that.

If you ask me, we need more men like Bolton in the world...

... and while I'm on that subject, can I send you over to the Faith Gambler?  I think these two posts are related...

Do you see my point?

UPDATE: I think Scott Ott does:

Biden Claims Bolton Staring at Him During Hearing
by Scott Ott

(2005-04-19) -- Sen. Joseph Biden, D-DE, today asked the chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to prevent President Bush's nominee for U.N. Ambassador, John Bolton, from staring at him during confirmation hearings.

"Mr. Chairman, he's looking at me again," said Sen. Biden. "Make him stop looking at me."

Indeed, a review of the video indicates that Mr. Bolton had directed a scowling gaze at several Senators during the hearings.

An aide to Sen. Biden said Mr. Bolton is trying to intimidate the Delaware Democrat into approving his nomination and has privately "threatened to have Biden unelected."

"The Senator feels bullied," said the unnamed aide. "Imagine how terrified Kofi Annan would be if we sent Bolton to the U.N."

Man, don't let any facts get in the way of your diatribe.

1) It was not one incident, and you wouldn't hire someone who did those things for any job. Throwing things at women is not a "different management style" as Condi puts it.
2) You ignore the more important issues that were brought up, namely:

- He was wrong about Cuba having a bioweapons program, but insisted in being wrong
- He believed Cuba was giving bioweapons to terrorists and did nothing about it. That is dereliction of duty even if he was wrong
- He suppressed intelligence that did not match his opinion
- He put the Iranian threat in the hands of Europe, precisely what Bush accused Kerry of doing (in hypothetical terms of course)
- He failed in any way to contain the North Korea threat
- He lied about the ambassador to South Korea praising his tough condemnation North Korea
- His condemnation gave political cover to Kim Jong Il in his own country to aggressively continue his oppression and WMD program. What was Bolton's job again? Hmmmm...

If you insist that Bolton did such a good job, why don't you list his accomplishments? Better yet, why don't the Senate Republicans who supposedly think he's so qualified?
