Seeing Terri Schiavo where she is not...

... that's pretty much my problem now... I need to step away, I can't imagine what her family is going through.

I visited Real Live Preacher this afternoon, enjoying his latest writings, these centered on his daughters.  They're well worth your time, great reads as usual.

But there was one phrase that jumped out of me in this RLP piece, where the Preacher speaks to the cruelty middle (and high) school girls can unleash on other girls who don't fit their mold of what an "in" girl ought to be.  In this story, RLP writes:

"It was like watching the hyenas cut one gazelle out from the herd and take her down."

In an instant, I thought of Terri.  Doesn't that phrase cut to the heart of what is happening in Clearwater Florida?  I certainly think so.

A pretty standard marriage vow:

For Terri's 'husband' to have lived with another woman and to have had two children by her while Terri lies in this state she has been in makes him a liar and a covenant breaker. And this liar and covenant breaker has the power to say that he alone heard her say she wouldn't want to live and the courts are taking his word for it?

I wonder why Terri's parents didn't get her a lawyer years ago and proceed with divorcing this 'unfaithful' husband? I also don't know about Florida but in many states it is against the law to commit adultery so he may be a state criminal as well.

Wow. You people sound really mean. So sure that anyone who disagrees with you has only the worst motives and you can't say more horrible things about them. The great divide in this country, illustrated by this hot-button issue, is going to take us down. BOTH sides need to really hear the other, accepting disagreement as needed but dispense with all this mud-slinging. Just as it did in this issue, it happens on everything now. This country is like a bad marriage about to go down the tubes if we don't start listening and caring about one another, and, for a change, respect honest differences.

Did ya ever thing BOTH sides might be sincere? Come on. The parents may really see some consciousness or they may be only dreaming. The husband did move on but he stands to gain nothing monetarily for this. Seventy percent of all people say they'd want their OWN tube disconnected if in Schiavo's state - what are the odds she did say this?

Please, for the sake of your own faith, for this country, and for people like the family of this woman,
respect one another. Don't trash one another even when you disagree.

Ann, sincerity is not the keystone of truthfulness, much less of truth itself. God requires not sincerity, but an adherence to His will. Rarely, when two or more people truly seek the face of God, will they have any significant disagreements, and surely none so blatant as the polar opposites we see in the Schiavo case.

Ask yourself this question: with whom among the following do you think Satan is most pleased right now?:

A) Michael Schiavo

B) Judge George Greer

C) The Schindlers

My money is on A or B, but definitely not on C.

the real sadness i feel is that terri's situation was brought on because she had an eating disorder. while i feel for both sides of this struggle and i grieve for terri i will keep my feelings about what is happening now to myself. i will say this however, perhaps the way to honor this woman now is to speak out about the dangers of eating disorders and work to change the way this country determines what is beautiful and what is not. Cats, I respect your concerns about eating disorders.

As it impacts Terri's case, though, the connect is speculative at best. Her family denies she had an eating disorder, and I don't think she was ever diagnosed as such, either.

chuckles, are you aware that judge Greer denied Terri's parents request to initiate divorce proceedings against M.S. on the grounds of adultery? They wanted to do this on Terri's behalf.

God certainly can't be smiling down on Americans at this time. Someday, there will be a full accounting, of every dark thought, deed, lies, and finally the crime of starving this woman to death. I would have to quit my job, if I were any part of it, to ever have a clear conscience. The thing that bothers me the most is Michael's clear intent to have total control...her death, funeral, and even burial. Blood kin doesn't matter, even in a life-death case. It's time to leave this country, or have another civil war. After all, history repeats itself. One person's opinion.
