Gerard is on the proverbial roll of late.
First, he speaks to this notion put forth by some in the culture of death that would suggest Michael Schiavo's actions are not driven by money:
What I do have some sense of is how much money Michael Schiavo stands to make if, and only if, his wife dies. It is, for a man, with a fresh new wife and two children, substantial. Having worked as an editor for Houghton Mifflin and as a literary agent, I have some the price the publishing and media worlds would put on his story. It will be significantly more than 30 pieces of silver.
The book deal: "HER BODY, MY SELF" by Michael Schiavo can be auctioned to a large group of major publishers within ten days of Terri Schiavo's death. This can be arranged by an canny and shameless agent -- and they are legion -- on the basis of 12 telephone calls, a two-page outline, a ghost writer known to the New York publishing world, and a dog-and-pony show where Michael is flown to New York and trotted around to six to eight editors' offices in a day. The bidding for this book will have a floor of two million dollars. The top offer will be in the range of three to three and a half-million for hardcover and paperback rights. Depending on the agent's feel for the market, translation rights may be added to the mix. Film rights will be held back. After the agent's 15% fee, Michael's take from this will be $2,550,000, less $50,000 paid to the ghost writer.
The film and tv rights for Michael's "story" will probably bring in another 1-3 million dollars depending on a number of factors and will, in this instance, be set in motion before the publication of the book.
Speaking fees: Michael Schiavo's lawyer currently commands $15,000 per speaking engagement, so it is not hard to see that Michael could easily pull down $50,000 per engagement. While you probably won't see him show up at Catholic conventions, he's a natural Keynoter for hundreds of other groups across the country and abroad. In the first year alone he could, given a reasonable calendar, be booked for at least 50 events. His gross fees in the first year would, in that case, come to $2,500,000.
Terri Schiavo is worth six to eight million dollars to Michael Schiavo if, and only if, she's dead. If she continues living nothing happens on the book or movie front because there's no ending. When she dies, it is jackpot time for Michael.
None of that is incredulous, in the least... and so now you might have some idea as to why the good husband has turned down monetary offers to date...
But hang on to your hats. Gerard then turns us on to this brutally honest piece by the Blue-Eyed Infidel also known as Rachel. [Editorial Note: The language is R-rated. I've made an exception to my usual policy of no F-bombs or other cusswords on the blog, largely because Rachel is communicating what I'm feeling and I'm not about to censor this kind of passion. Period. In fact, I'm hoping it fosters more passion. From someone who can save Terri's life. And soon.]:
Now that I know that in America, many many people (mostly liberals) are totally fine with starving living things to death - specifically, living things with "rights", which would imply some sort of sentience or consciousness or soul but apparently that includes vegetables - I've been thinking of all sorts of practical applications of that belief.
Let's see. I have a dog named Sunny, as many of you know. I signed a contract at the pound taking responsibility for her and I clearly am her legal "next of kin." Now, it's very likely that some day, Sunny will have arthritis in her hips and legs, and she might eventually be unable to move around on her own.
So! Who knows Sunny better than me? No one! So you must take my word for it when I say that I "know" Sunny would not want to suffer from arthritis to the point that she couldn't even walk around. Really, she wouldn't. I am telling you.
So here's my idea to (1) save time and money, (2) to fulfill Sunny's "wishes", and (3) to enforce her "rights": when she gets to the point where the arthritis in her hips and legs is so severe that she can't even stand up and/or walk over to the food and water bowls....WE JUST LET HER LAY THERE AND DIE!!
It's fucking brilliant, I tell you.
After all. We won't actually be "killing" her. We'll just be letting her die naturally, exactly as she would if she were in the wild. Do you think that if she lived in the woods like wolves and raccoons and squirrels do, that anyone would bring her food and water when she became crippled? Fuck no! So why should we? This is nature, folks. It is Sunny's right to die a natural, peaceful death, unsullied by human or medical intervention.
It will probably only take 7 to 14 days for her heart to give up and stop beating. Her lips and eyes might get kind of dry, but I can slather Vaseline all over her face so she's not too uncomfortable towards the end. You know, while she STARVES TO GODDAMN DEATH LIKE WE COULDN'T EVEN LEGALLY INFLICT UPON SOMEONE LIKE ADOLF FUCKING HITLER.
And what if any of my friends or relatives object to my plan to starve Sunny to death when she can no longer walk? What if they offer to adopt Sunny, to take her to their house, to hand-feed and hand-water her, to take her to the vet and get her good medicine, to get her any kind of therapy she would need to make her life better, and to pay for it all themselves?
THEY CAN KISS MY ASS!!
That's right. If Sunny can't feed herself, then she gets to die, and that is the end of the fucking story. Just like Terri Schiavo. She "wouldn't want" to live like a vegetable, I am telling you. No, she didn't write it down or anything - but I swear she feels that way...well, at least she did one time a while back when it came up in conversation. You'll just have to take my word for it.
But long before I actually let her starve to death, I think I might pull a Michael Schiavo and find a new dog and bring it to live with me. Sunny can go live in a dog hospice or something, and sometimes I'll be an evil asshole just like Michael Schiavo and not even let other people who love Sunny visit her. I might even threaten them with never, ever seeing her again! But only because I care so much about Sunny. Did I mention that I have a life insurance policy on her and will get some dough when she kicks it? That's not important though. What's important is states' rights and the right to die and all that happy horseshit that most people are so hypocritical about, it's not even funny anymore.
Some of you may disagree with my plan. But how dare you question my commitment to my own dog? How dare you interfere in a private family matter? How dare you consider what other people who love Sunny might have to say about it? What kind of people are you, that you would want to prolong Sunny's misery any longer? She is just a dog/vegetable, after all. She has no consciousness like you and me. She cannot make decisions for herself. She's exactly like Terri Schiavo.
So it's just great that that evil asshole, Michael Schiavo, is setting such an upstanding example for us all to follow. And it's truly fantastic that so many liberals and other stupid fuckers are supporting him in his quest to dehydrate and/or starve his "wife" to death. It's really just superb.
I'm sure my dog Sunny will appreciate all the asinine arguments people have made about the rights of someone they themselves claim is not sentient, and how really, starvation/dehydration is one of the more "peaceful" ways to die. Hopefully, all of you who have made those arguments will one day have the "right" yourself to die in such a way. I wish you the absolute BEST in that regard. Really I do. I wouldn't want those Bible-thumping Repuglicans to deny you your "right" to have your "wishes" acted upon by someone who has abandoned you and lives in a common-law marriage with someone else, and who treats your parents and siblings like shit and refuses to consider any of their feelings or wishes about anything concerning your well-being. They don't know jack shit. The only person who knows jack shit about what you might want is the person you married when you were 20 years old, right? I mean that's just obvious.
There's another 5 paragraphs or so that deserve your attention. Go now and read the rest.
And thanks Mr. Van Der Leun. Excellent job in keeping us informed, keeping us validated.

you are very welcome.

Wow! Rachel managed to perfectly express (expletives included) exactly what I've been feeling!
I'm wondering if she forgotten to mention, though, that there's an excellent chance that Sunny has been misdiagnosed, and the real reason she's finding it hard to move is due to an infected nail, not arthritis.
Now I hear there is a last-ditch effort before Judge Death today with a request that he recuse himself. If you will excuse me now, I believe I shall take leave to hold my breath.

Is STARVING a person to death no longer considered as cruel and unusual punishment?
Accouding to some judges, it appears so. Will it be OK to pull the G-tubes out of the infirmed?
If an APL starved animals to death, the people would be outraged! And judges do not execute
death row convicts by starvation, this would still be considered as cruelty. And yet they have
opened the floodgates on doing this to defenseless people that cannot speak do to brain trauma.
Hey they opened this can of worms over thirty years ago when they made it legal to kill babies
ala abortion. Could it be that abortion was legalized to save the govy lots of $$$ with welare?
Also could it be that such mercy killings would also get a lot of people off of medicare/medicaid?
So killing Terri is the first of many that will be permitted by the govy, this is only the beginning.
Many epileptics have had half of their brains removed, and function normally. If Terri's brain were
truely "dead", I would think that her heart, breathing, and other bodily functions would stop without
"the machines" for life support assistance. But she is functioning fine, long term, without a
machine that keeps her alive by making her breath. Starving a person is cruel people!
But not according to some judges that kill the infirmed, as Hitler did in WWII! So be prepairred to hear
of many others that will be starved to death on the news, with the USA justice system's blessings!
Now death by starvation is legal! Maybe it will be added to gas, electric chairs, hanging, shooting, and
poisones-injection for those on death row. But don't you dare starve your kitty cat!!! Pass this around, after
all it is supposed to be legal to protest if our first amendment rights are allowed. But then, isn't
there something about cruelty in the same constitution that the judges are supposed to uphold?
Our govy kills a lot of people - and we just sit there and watch it on our TV sets. God help us all!
Wasn't this country founded because of over-taxation? People back then fought such opression.
How much will it take for the people to say, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH with corrupt politicians? Is a judge immune to prosecution or impeachment? Perhaps this is why they will not admit wrongdoing! They impeached Clinton for Monica? But killing cripples is OK? BS!!!

Is starvation of the infirmed legalized now? Hmmm, legalized abortions, now legalized starvation! Does this mean that a husband has rights over his wife's body now? My mom does not want to live the rest of her life in a nursing home, she wants to die! And she can talk! Should they grant her wish to die by starving her to death? This is scarey, judges legislating, is that constitutional now? What next?

If Terri could talk... would she say, "DON'T STARVE ME TO DEATH - STOP THIS CRUELTY TO ME AND MY FAMILY"! I think she is speaking LOUD AND CLEARLY! But the "politicians" aren't listening. I would think that a judge would say to Mikie, "You may let her die, but you cannot kill her by starvation, this would be very cruel torture - not allowed young man". We do not permit death row cons to be executed by starvation, and it is unconstitutional as being concidered as cruel. So the cruelty issue was the way out for the politicians and judges, had they considered this. All they had to do was say this cruelty would not be permitted. I wonder if Ol Jeb and Georgie would do something if it were Barbara instead of Terri. I am sick and tired of this, "can't do anything more" BS! Even Mikie can stop this if he wanted to! Yet they all are watching her die, maybe it would have been different if it were them instead??? I wonder if Mikie, the judges, or politicians would want to DIE BY STARVATION? If so, I hope they will specify this in their own LIVING WILLS! I bet Mikie would freak if he went a day or two without food! I am off to see what's for lunch in my frig, it's great to be an American!
