Kerry, lacking manliness in defeat, sends his boy out to say that while "Hope" is no longer on the way, lawyers are. Sigh. The Democratic Race ends as it began, classless and leaderless.
Ohio: Bush. New Mexico: Bush. Electoral College Votes: Bush. Popular Votes: Bush. Election: Bush. Democrats: Suing.
Bob:
I was doing some surfing around some Democratic blogs and couldn't help but notice how unhinged they were getting as the night went along. Here are some examples.
"I am joining Al Qaeda. Will coordinate suicide bombings in all red states starting tomorrow. Any volunteers?""Civil war anyone? let's truly become blue-staters. union blue. we fought to take this country from the british, we fought to keep this country together, why not wage one last battle for the heart and soul of america."
"I hate the f***ing South. Would you dumbass redneck racist fundamentalist crackers do the rest of the country a favor and secede from the Union again? Jeeezus, I hate you people. Seriously, f*** your redneck asses."
"This is not about Bush, this is not about the Republicans, it is about the voters or at least a little more than half of them. They are not stupid, they are racist and sexist and they use their religion and objection to abortion for justification, because it makes them feel that it is then OK to be racist and sexist. It isn't just Muslim extremists who want to turn back the clock."
I was prepared to write a dirge about waking up in "Blue" America while Osama bin Laden and Michael Moore re-enacted scenes from Dirty Dancing.
What a pleasant surprise to see that it ain't over yet! It all comes down to Ohio.
It's Bush. Thank God, it's Bush.
There is so much to do. Not in Iran, or Iraq, or even in Washington.
We have four years to remake our society; four years to reclaim our media, our entertainment industry, our universities and our children.
Most importantly, we have four years to regain some control over who guards information.
This weblog is about to explode. You have no idea what is coming. No idea!
GOT UP: Saw that people are still wrangling. It looks to me as if Bush has won it, and I think that Kerry should consider whether he wants to concede gracefully or become a second Al Gore, only this time without the popular vote. I'm going back to bed.
Joe:
I don’t know why I thought they would be gracious losers. They are men of low character who will do anything to get elected. They don't even have the dignity to lose like gentlemen and I don't have the time or patience to wait for this nonsense.
The official big media electoral vote total is Bush 254, Kerry 252. That doesn't count Ohio, where Bush has a lead of 140,000 with 99% of precincts in, or New Mexico and Iowa, where Bush has leads of 11,000 and 15,500, respectively, with virtually all the precincts also in. Add those to the Bush total and he has 286 electoral votes, a comfortable majority.
Curiously, big media have had no trouble declaring Pennsylvania for Kerry, although that race is tighter than Ohio's; Wisconsin for Kerry, although his lead there is less than Bush's in Iowa; and New Hampshire for Kerry, although his lead there is less than Bush's in New Mexico. Note also that Bush won the popular vote by 3.6 million, a figure unimportant in comparison to the electoral college vote-- but remember in 2000 the fuss big media made about Gore receiving more popular vote than Bush?
No victory dances until Kerry understands that he was decisively defeated last night. While it is highly improbable all the provisional Ohio votes will go for Kerry (as most reasonable people would agree), he’s holding on to a last shred of hope, though dignity left the building a long time ago. Ironically, those votes will probably increase Bush’s lead in the state.
