Blogging may be light in the coming days as I spend time with my wife, my sons, and my extended family in the Outer Banks (dodging tropical storm Alex we hope).
However, I did have time to cruise David's blog and in particular this post titled 'To my liberal Christian friends':
It could perhaps be said that we live in a house divided. Certainly the division of American religious life has at least part of its roots in the antiwar movement of the 1960’s and the enormous forward march of statism, ethnic identity, and sexual libertinism since that time. Perhaps we are living through a bloodless Civil War between two incompatible views of the world and interpretations of God’s will; I think that’s altogether possible.
...
Like today, both sides prayed to the same God within the same denominations. Like today, in the bloodless civil war across a cultural divide, logic dictated that it was possible both sides were in the wrong, but it was impossible for both sides to be correct.
The thing to remember is that after that all too bloody Civil War 140 years ago, the Republic survived. Although the opposing forces had so much they could not agree upon, there must have been enough fundamental commonality of purpose and faith to rebuild a shattered nation.
Interesting post by my buddy David. Do read the whole thing and pay special attention to comments left. Good stuff.
Now back to my preparations for Alex, all of which we hope will be naught.
