Our first Harley adventure

Dragonfly-1
Ever had a bee enter your car while your tootling down the road? The screams, the dodges, the panic that usually follows is only funny in hindsight.

Now imagine an 8-inch dragon fly flying into your full face helmet. I don't mean bouncing off, but literally flying in to (and inside) the helmet.

We were on our first Harley ride on the nearby Colonial Parkway, a favorite thruway for motorcycle enthusiasts.

Mrs. Brutally Honest was ahead of me and we were heeding the posted 45 MPH speed limit.

As we approached one of the many turn offs, I saw her signal and slow quickly and then stop.

As I pulled alongside, I saw her rather frantically attempting to get her helmet off. And then I saw the bug. Inside her visor, flapping it's wings and causing Linda to hasten her attempts to escape the helmet (click on the dragonfly picture to get an idea of what she was looking at roughly an inch and a half from her face).

She was finally able, after what must've seemed like an eternity, to flip her visor up. I quickly reached in, grabbed a handful of dragonfly (and I do mean a handful), and tossed the bug aside.

Then I marveled at my lovely bride. She was in tears... not because she was so traumatized, frightened or panicked but because she was laughing so hard.

Incredible.

I would've needed a new set of fruit-of-the-looms...

Needless to say, she's looking forward to the detachable windshield that gets installed on the bike in the coming days.

And the bug?

Last we saw, it was flying away, back to the set of the next Godzilla movie, where I'm sure it has a starring role.

Ah yes, windshields come in very handy!

I'm kinda glad I didn't see this up close picture before it happened. That thing is gross looking. Yep, can't wait for the windshield. :)

Whew - gives a new experiencial picture to "a bee in the bonnet" phrase!

That is one brave lady you've got there!

So, is it fair to assume you've got your dream Harley(s)?

I just had a flash back to when a bumble bee hit me in the neck as I rode (without helmet and on a Suzuki) it almost unloaded me from the bike and I had a welt for a month or so. WaynO

Yes it is...
