Father's Day 2004

A grand day.

Number one son plans a golf outing early in the morning, and although he beat me by a handful of strokes, I enjoyed the time together, immensely.

Number two son gives me a card that nails me, makes me laugh, and gives me a gift certificate to my favorite Mexican place, where Friday night margaritas with the mother of my children has become a Brutally Honest staple.

Later in the day, I spend some quality time with my own dad, where we watch Mickelson go on to lose yet another U.S. Open, sharing in the second heart break of the day after our favorite Nascar driver blows an engine after leading 81 of 85 laps earlier in the day.

And then I spend an hour and half in the cool of the evening with Mrs. Brutally Honest, she who played a rather large role in my becoming a Dad. We rode together on the Road King, and I tell you there's nothing finer, or sweeter, than a cool breeze in the face, the rumble of a Harley in your ears, and the woman you love hanging on closely and tightly as the sun sets on a beautiful day.

Here's hoping all Dads get the chance to enjoy the day I was able to enjoy today.

Sweet.

This was my first Father's Day (as a dad). It's great to feel appreciated by my wife, who I think was the one who really wrote my card. I enjoyed a favorite snack of crackers and cheese (ah, the simple pleasures) and then a nice dinner at an Indian restaurant.

Happy Father's Day to all!

Happy Fathers Day, Rick. Sounds like you had a great one.

Happy Father's Day, Rick!

I'm glad you enjoyed your day. I know I definitely did. Happy Father's Day to all the dads.

Mine was pretty sweet, too, Rick. With all our trials and speedbumps, we still have a pretty functional family, thank God. I got what I wanted: 2 smiles and 2 hugs around the neck. Be well.
